Not Just for Teenagers
I have read all the books (and loved them), seen Twilight a hundred times (and loved it) and now I have just seen New Moon and loved that too - and I'm 38. This series will appeal to anyone, in my opinion, even my husband really enjoyed it.

I must admit I did wonder before seeing this film if it would have the same feel as Twilight with it having a new Director but it is every bit as good as the first. The love between Bella and Edward and also Jacob and Bella is very palpable and really well acted. The scenery and backdrops are just as gloomy and eerie and the music creates just the right atmosphere. It's over a year since I read the book, but from memory this film stays pretty faithful to the book and really did it justice.

Whether you're Team Edward or Team Jacob, I'm pretty sure that if you're a fan of the books then you'll be a fan of this too. I loved it!

Good but put me in Camp Hardwicke

This film has divided fans, I think, as to whether they preferred Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, or prefer Chris Weitz on board as a new director. Personally, I think Twilight was better and wished they had kept the same director.

what a beautiful film
Such a good film on so many levels.
A heartbeaking love story. Prepare to shed some tears.
A beautiful film to look at, Jane Campion doesn't put a foot wrong. It looks authentic and avoids the usual BBC period drama feel.
Great casting and of course superb acting.
I saw this in France and nobody in the audience moved until the lights came up.
If you buy one dvd this week make sure its this one.

Brilliant, avoids all the usual mundane traps of period drama. A genuinely emotional film.
Before I saw 'Bright Star' (2009) it must be said that I was not a fan of period dramas. Most productions are slow-paced and old fashioned but Campion's film gives the genre a new lease of life and provides an authentic and beautiful account of the three year romance between Keats and Brawne.

I highly recommend this title.

Romantic, not always truthful, but a pretty watch (3.5 stars)

Would it have been less romantic for director Jane Campion to acknowledge in her film that the poet John Keats (1795-1821) frequented brothels before he met Fanny Brawne (some biographers suggest he continued using prostitutes whilst courting her), that Brawne did in fact marry another after the poet died, or that Keats - in contrast to the sublime gorgeousness of Ben Whishaw - apparently suffered from acne?

Immense!
I'll tell you what, Gwen, this omelette...erm, no....that's not right. Start again. This boxset is immense!:)

All three series, and the 2008 Christmas special, of the best, wittiest, most charming and romantic British sitcom ever made (in my humble opinion). Six million viewers can't be wrong. It is totally deserving of the awards and nominations it has picked up along the way, not limited to TWO Baftas (Audience Award and Best Comedy Performance for James Corden). So often a show can find itself overrated and over-hyped, but I honestly don't think Gavin & Stacey has been. Not one bit. I think it is all they say it is...and more.

For me the comedy comes from those around the two leads. Gavin and Stacey are very much foils for the crazy and lovable friends and families who provide the comedic elements. Rob Brydon's 'Uncle Bryn', Stacey's uncle, is just so funny it is untrue. While James Corden's 'Smithy', Gavin's best mate, is also hilarious. The dry 'Nessa', Stacey's best friend (played by Corden's co-writer Rush Jones) has to be seen to be believed. However, all the characters are funny...and I feel awful singling anyone out for individual credit. I'm struggling to find the words to describe in what way these characters are funny....I simply can't. It just has to be experienced. All I can say is that like 'The Royle Family', a lot of the comedy comes from mundane, every day conversations. And although it can be saucy and racy, I honestly can't remember a single expletive being uttered throughout the series. Certainly not the bad swear words anyway.

As regards the actual box set, well I can confirm that all the extras from the previous individual releases are all accounted for, so this is the most economical way to buy the complete Gavin & Stacey collection, IF you have so far managed to resit buying the individual series 1 and 2 sets, and the 2008 Christmas special, that is. If you have been buying those, then you're best off buying the standalone season 3 set...as this contains nothing you will miss purchasing it that way. However, it is a pleasure to own the lot in one neat box set.

When they call this 'the complete collection', they mean exactly that. Series 3 was the last we will likely see of our two favourite families from Billericay and Barry Island. James Corden and Ruth Jones have said it will have to be a HUGE inspiration for them to make even another special, while another series is definitely out of the picture.

To summarise, it is tidy! And well lush! Just buy it, savour it, and hope that we'll see its like again.

An instant classic
This has been one of the best comedies of the last decade , is witty , original , rude and very funny.

Smithy is the key character that binds the series together ,his relationship with Nessa and Gavin provides an interesting focal point in the episodes .The satellite dish installation will remain in my mind for a long time as a perfectly pitch joke " is lush "

Gladly it looks like there are leaving things as they are the series ends nicely .

Every single character is funny and interesting from Doris and her salads to the fishing trip ,one can't get enough of them .

Wet your pants laughing!
This is truly just THE funniest thing I own on DVD. WELL worth buying for anybody with a heart, soul and sense of humour! Even my parents like it and they're over 50. Don't think it's just for young people, it's well worth letting the whole family watch.

A brilliant Forsyte remake for the modern generation.

For those of you who are very fond of the original black/white series, do not fear. This new adaptation takes nothing away from the beloved earlier version, but rather takes a fresh and modern look at the novel.

We begin in the late Victorian period with the Forsytes, a very rich and powerful family who appear to have it all on the outside, but underneath lies deceit, betrayal, unhappiness and affairs.

Young Jolyon Foryste (Rupert Graves) is stuck in a loveless marriage with only his young daughter, June, as his happiness. When Jolyon falls in love with his daughter's nanny and leaves his wife, he is cast out by his father, Jolyon Forsyte Sr (Corin Redgrave brilliantly cast) and left to live in poverty.

Si graçieux et magnifique!!!!!

Mon anglais est si mauvais que je m'abstiens par égard pour tous d'en faire étalage!!! Ce commentaire surtout destiné aux personnes françaises qui comme moi adorent ces superbes sagas en langue anglaise pour leur grande et superbe qualité et qui une fois encore ne démentent pas leur réputation: c'est grandiose! Et contrairement à ce que je peux lire sur les quelques réserves autour de Gina McKee pour le rôle d'Irene, je la trouve personnellement d'une grâce infinie, simplement parce qu'elle épouse les traits mondains et libres des peintures de J.S Sargent ou de Boldini et qu'elle incarne là cette douce liberté qui a fondé la femme moderne. Dommage que nous n'ayons pas en France beaucoup d'acteurs d'une telle envergure. Seul bémol: pensez à nous avec un sous titrage en français!!!

David Suchet as Melmotte makes this set a 'Must Have'!
This entire Trollope DVD set is a winner, but The Way We Live Now is absolutely phenomenal and ranks among the finest of such screen adaptations that I've ever seen in my life. Furthermore, if you thought that David Suchet was a great actor, wait till you see him as Melmotte, a Robert Maxwell of the 19th century. Suchet's performance is stupendous and anticipates his masterful handling of the role of Robert Maxwell in the TV film 'Maxwell' which I'm also desperate to get on DVD. If you value the BBC's tradition of impeccable production standards in period adaptations of novels as much as I do and enjoy a good thriller to boot, then buy this set at the excellent Amazon price!

Classic BBC drama
Wonderful to have a record of these excellent BBC productions of some of Trollope's best work. Donald Pleasance is outstanding as the Warden and contrasts beautifully with his worldly son-in-law, played by Nigel Hawthorne. Geraldine McEwan's Mrs Proudie is a tour de force and Alan Rickman plays the hateful Obadiah Slope (the role which launched his career). Fascinating to see David Tennant shine in a small but telling role as a vacillating clergyman in 'He Knew He Was Right'. The third drama, 'The Way We Live Now' provides a Victorian parallel with our own times. Costumes and settings are all beautiful and the quality of production very high.

excellent
This series is excellent from start to finish. The stories by Trollope are interesting and stimulating. The actors are all first rate, though I would say that Donald Pleasence is outstanding. Best of all, to hear the English language spoken in a completely intelligible manner is a pure pleasure.

As fresh as when it was made.
It is one of the most charming television series ever made. It can truely be said to be a timeless classic. The image and audio quality suffers from time to time (it was made in the 70s), but the stories and acting make up for any technical limitations. No additional features. Breaking the series into two boxed sets is a little annoying, but better than what happened to the VHS release.

Vintage - seems to have improved with age.
Don't know what the viewing figures were when this came out in the seventies but it seemed at the time that everyone was watching it. Could recall the programme contained shots of beautiful Yorkshire countryside but as an adult I am enjoying it all the more, it is just such fun to watch, plenty of humour, rich characterisations and wonderful acting. Robert Hardy's portrayal of Siegfried is electric - he positively sparkles with energy.

SUPERB 3RD SEASON~ ADDICTIVE VIEWING

I rarely write reviews but felt I had to as I can't really understand the views or comments of some reviews I have read recently on here and lovefilm saying that this series was "SAMEY" / "DULL" compared to the first 2 seasons ?? did we watch the same show???

In this season Dexter finds a new friend .... ( I don't want to add spoilers to the review as I feel the tension builds when you don't know the likely outcome).

Excitement Diminishing

The last episode of Dexter - Series 3 was aired in the UK on Fx channel @ 10 pm last Friday 10 July 2009.

Firstly the overall series has a similiar theme to the previous two series - appearance of the "baddy" in each series. Dexter's connection/friendship with these characters in each series and eventually Dexter's realisation that this "baddy" has to go and Dexter is forced to "dispose" of these people.

Free Spirited Vulpine
"Fantastic Mr Fox" is a thoroughly entertaining children's movie that I can unreservedly recommend to parents seeking to amuse their offspring this Halloween break. The film is quirky,funny and unpredictable and the animation is visually impressive and original. The characters in the film are all iconoclastic and determinedly individual,especially Mr Fox , voiced perfectly by George Clooney. Mr Fox is a charismatic free spirit who, after moving to his new tree house, falls back into his old ways and cannot resist the temptation to raid three nearby farms and make off with large amounts of poultry. However the farmers take their revenge and hunt him down mercilessly .Can Mr Fox lead his merry band of woodland animals to safety and regain his brush in the process ? October 2009 has certainly been a good month for animated children's films with "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", "Up" and now "Fantastic Mr Fox" all being of a high standard.

adored it
This is a great-looking film made with traditional stop-go animation and it is not meant to be all about CGI and special-effects. The end result is gorgeous. The animals have a slight jumpiness to their movements but that is the style of the movie and strangely realistic. The score is also very simple, mainly (wholly?) a drum that you hear whenever the action it about to speed up. I found this entirely adequate, stylish, and even humorous. The creatures themselves are gorgeous to look at. George Clooney gives a faultless, stylish, humorous performance as Mr Fox. The story is about a fox who has settled down into marriage but who can't resist one more adventure. I loved it and so did my six-year-old and not many movies can reach such a wide age range as that!

Fantastic Mr. Anderson, Now in Fox-Time

Filmmaker Wes Anderson is a specialist in comedies about the fault lines in the American dream. "Rushmore" concerns a prep school student, a middle-aged millionaire, and their romantic rivalry over a woman who doesn't want either of them. "The Royal Tennenbaums" examines a family of former prodigies and what happens when their estranged, deadbeat father re-enters their lives, while "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" imagines a Jacques Costeau type adventurer as a combination of Don Quixote and Captain Ahab. Anderson's new film, "Fantastic Mr. Fox," is the story of an aging family man who risks everything to recapture the thrill of his youth. It's set in an imaginary England where all the animal characters talk with American accents, and, along with the steampunk-influenced "Sherlock Holmes," it's one of the two new pictures I've most enjoyed this year.

A story of hope and love perfectly done - Bravo!

I must have watched this film 25 times and i know I'll watch it 25 more. I can't wait to watch it with my newborn daughter when she is old enough to understand. The message of hope and love is so strong in this film. When I visited the small Sicilian town of my father's ancestors I saw the same hope and love amongst its people. In a place that is in such dire straits by our standards I saw loveing people who truly cared about one another, whose love went so far beyond the materialistic. This movie portrays this so well. ALl that we see and hear, Alfredo is perfect what a father he would make and did make to young Toto. Toto's mother's resilience in contacting him. The scene at the end when Toto is seeing all the people he new from his youth, older and still in the same situation yet still happy and hopeful, and when our homeless friend walks through and states "La piazza mia." who can say they didn't cry but with a smile on their faces. A true masterpiece, I think I'll go and watch it right now. It truly is Paradiso.

A unique fun view of the 70's

First and foremost, I picked this DVD up because I have a thing for Lynda Carter. I was pleasantly surprised to see her nude in 'Bobbie Jo & The Outlaw', a very rare film and I was not disappointed. But I was most impressed at the quantity of quality film clips of nude scenes from some very obscure, long-forgotten films. Now I'm on this obsessed quest to find all these films for my collection, especially the ones with a young Helen Mirren amd Phyllis Davis.

A great purchase, a must-have for skin-connoisseurs!

This Set Is Absolutely Indispensible...

...to anyone interested in film history and yet it's not so academic that it can't be appreciated by the casual moviegoer. There are two documentaries here one dealing with the development of sound, the other with the development of color. Both were made in France a few years back and are just now making their way here. Rather than use subtitles they utilize voiceovers when necessary which makes them more accessible to most people.

Fascinating to follow the development of Cinema in it's early days. It is astounding to note that Sound on film today has gone around the circle to include separate sound discs that are used for Digital (sound is also on the actual film),as they were used in the pioneering days.

A good collection of rare films are used to show the development of both Sound and Color.
